Culinary student Michael Matthews and Teacher Preparation student Sekyia Williams will head to nationals in their respective competitions.
Culinary student Michael Matthews won first place in his competition at FCCLA State and has qualified for the national competition.
Matthews won the gold medal in Baking and Pastry (Level 3) at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Tulsa. He has now qualified to compete at the National Leadership Conference that takes place July 6-10 in Washington, D.C.
Early Childhood Education had FCCLA chapters recognized for their active participation in projects and community events. Both the AM and PM class chapters received bronze star recognition, and the post-secondary student chapter received a silver star.
FCCLA chapters are recognized for excelling in five components: membership, adviser, leadership, meetings, and projects.
The Early Childhood AM and PM chapters were also recognized for their recruitment efforts.
The Teacher Preparation program had students compete at The Educators Rising state conference. Sekyia Williams placed first in the Children’s Literature Pre-K competition and will now compete at the national conference in Portland, Oregon, this June.
