3D Animation and Visual Effects

Overview
Star Trek or any Pixar film couldn't have been made without the skills learned in this program. Reach epIK Dimensions as you experience our state-of-the art training studio incorporating motion capture and 3D printing. Learn to combine your academic abilities with creativity and innovation in an environment that encourages teamwork, problem solving, and the ability to meet deadlines. This program will prepare you to pursue additional training related to digital marketing, 3D design and animation, special effects, advanced techniques for motion graphics, and engineering for sustainability. You'll also gain valuable experience that will help you stand out from the competition.
The primary application you will learn is Maya, Autodesks' Oscar-winning software with many practical applications. It supports many industries including web animation, entertainment, training and education, engineering, communications and digital marketing, government and healthcare professions (ie. animated simulations), advertising, and the corporate world, where digital media is increasingly used as a visual marketing tool. You may use a variety of additional CGI tools including Photoshop, Illustrator, Toon Boom, After Effects, Apple Final Cut Pro, ZBrush, MotionBuilder, and compositing applications.
If you are interested in 3D Modeling, Animation, or Visual Effects, the Special Effects Technician major lets you experience the different aspects of these areas and enter college with clearly defined goals for your future. You'll acquire unique skills, gain confidence, and develop a portfolio that can help you compete for scholarships.

Occupational Characteristics
In general, the field of 3D Animation and Visual Effects requires creativity, innovation, and high interest in and/or aptitude for math and science.
3D Modelers need studio art and/or the ability to draw, an understanding of stage lighting, and a high interest/aptitude for geometry as well as anatomy and/or life science.
3D Animators need a high interest/aptitude for math (including trigonometry) and science (including physics).
Motion Graphics Artists/VFX Artists/Compositors should have a high interest/aptitude for both math (including trigonometry) and science (including physics).

High school students and part-time adult students enroll in either the AM or PM session. Full-time adult students enroll in both sessions.
