Practical Nursing 23-24

The Francis Tuttle Practical Nursing program strives to provide students with an innovative, industry-driven educational experience that prepares them to provide quality health care in a variety of settings. Students learn in an environment that features state-of-the-art technology, a large mini-hospital, simulated laboratory setting, and a Health Resource Center equipped with both traditional and technology resources.

Learning is enhanced in a collaborative environment characterized by active, responsible student involvement and instructors who function as facilitators, experts, and resources. Students are responsible for their own learning, while faculty are responsible for maintaining an expert knowledge base, managing the learning environment to the maximum benefit of the learner, and implementing teaching strategies and methodologies to meet student learning styles.

To be successful, students should expect to spend a minimum of 20-25 hours per week studying outside of class and clinical time. It is highly recommended that students admitted to the program work no more than 24 hours per week.

The PN program has two enrollment options: 1) Fall Cohort; 2) Spring Cohort. Both cohorts include the 1+1 nursing education partnership referrals.

Since the PN program is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), graduates qualify for "direct articulation" into select Oklahoma Associate Degree Nursing Programs. According to the Statewide PN/ADN Articulation Plan approved by the State Regents for Higher Education, applicants for direct articulation must hold current licensure as an LPN in the state of Oklahoma, must have graduated within the past five years from an ACEN accredited school, and must be employed as an LPN (there is no minimum number of hours required). The number of credit hours awarded will be determined by the granting educational institution. Policies that provide a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the opportunity to take challenge examinations to receive college credit are available at most colleges.

Licensure / Certifications

  • Licensed Practical Nurse Licensure - $200* Certifications: *Requires successful completion of the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX). Francis Tuttle will pay the exam fee ($200.00). Student is responsible for the Licensure fee ($150.00) as listed
