Nurse Aid I

This major is no longer available, please refer to Pre-Nursing majors for the 23-24 school year.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the healthcare industry is exploding. Employment of healthcare occupations is projected to grow 14 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations, adding about 1.9 million new jobs. Healthcare occupations are projected to add more jobs than any other occupational group.

This high growth rate is driven by development of new technology and treatment modalities, aging of the population, increased healthcare spending, and the need to replace healthcare workers who retire or leave their jobs for other reasons. Growing demand for qualified healthcare workers means excellent employment opportunities for a wide variety of people. Most health support occupations require less than four years of college and many employers offer competitive wage and benefit packages including insurance, tuition reimbursement, and flexible hours to allow for continued education.

The Pre-Nursing program is designed to prepare students to pursue a profession in nursing, as well as provide a foundation for students interested in pursuing another health-related field.  By completing certifications in Nurse Aide (NA) and/or Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA), students become qualified to work in hospitals and long term care facilities.
