Back-End Developer

About this Major

Back-End Developers focus on the code behind the scenes and the code that controls how a website functions. They create applications using server-side scripting languages that connect to a database. Back-End Developers have to learn to work with front-end developers and project managers, and this program also teaches students how to develop those essential skills for employment.

Flexibility, creativity and problem-solving skills are essential for a web professional to adapt. Developers also have to communicate effectively with various departments, so communication and teamwork skills are very important. Commitment to lifelong learning is essential in an industry that changes quickly. Web professionals also must learn to work independently, given the opportunities for remote work and working from home.
