Advanced Leadership Academy

Advanced Leadership Academy. Lead with strategy, influence with confidence.

This $395/person 6-class series is intended to help mid-level leaders with 2-5 years of managerial experience who have a desire to grow in their professional skills and abilities as a leader.  (While prior participation in our Leadership Development Academy is beneficial, it is not required.)

The class will help participants learn the essential elements of highly effective teams, discover how emotional intelligence shapes decision-making and improves communication, explore strategies to navigate and recover from workplace conflict, gain feedback tools to support behavior change, build clarity and alignment in goal-driven teams, and glean insights from industry leaders on real challenges.

Class Descriptions

Leading Highly Effective Teams – Tami Shaw

Grounded in the framework from The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, participants reflect, discuss, and experience the challenges and essential elements of becoming a highly effective team.  As part of this session, participants will identify a current challenge, and at the end of the series, present their key insights and proposed solution.

Emotional Intelligence for Leaders – Jim Friedemann

Explore how the brain influences emotions and decision-making by understanding the key components of emotional intelligence (EQ). Elevate your leadership by harnessing the power of emotional intelligence. Learn how to better manage your emotions, navigate challenging conversations and build stronger, more resilient teams. Create a personalized plan to help you grow in EQ as well as lead with greater clarity, empathy, and impact.

Conflict Transformation – Krista Scammahorn

Discover the transformative power of navigating conflicts in the workplace. Dive into the realm of human interaction and embrace the opportunity to foster positive connections.  This engaging session will guide you through effective strategies and techniques to promote conflict recovery, and uncover your potential for personal and professional growth and development.

Giving & Receiving Effective Feedback – Tami Shaw

Participants will explore the differences between feedback, advice, and expectations, gaining clarity on when and how to use each.  They’ll reflect on experiences and develop strategies for effective communication across various relational dynamics – such as peer-to-peer and supervisor-to-staff, as well as affirmative versus constructive feedback.  This session will introduce tools like strengths-based affirmations, objective “notice-and-wonder” observations, and coaching language stems to support behavior change.

Goal Clarity & Team Alignment – Tami Shaw

This session covers three types of goals, simple formulas for setting them, and strategies for achieving success. Drawing on research, behavior change principles, and insights from books like Measure What Matters, The Power of Moments, and Atomic Habits, participants will explore the role of clarity and alignment in leading goal-driven teams.

Real Talk Leadership Panel & Academy Capstone - Tami Shaw

A panel of accomplished leaders from various industries will share insights and real-world experiences.  Participants can submit scenarios and ask questions to learn how panelists would approach current challenges.  To conclude the Academy, each participant will share key takeaways from their cohort experience.

Instructors

Tami Shaw

Tami Shaw is a learning and talent development expert with nearly two decades of training experience focused on communications and organizational system design. Tami has had what she calls a series of dream jobs - from 8th grade Math Teacher to Professional Development Specialist, to her current role as an Organizational Development Trainer at Francis Tuttle where she partners with companies to facilitate exceptional and affordable training that strengthens individuals, teams, and leaders. Tami holds a Bachelors in English from the University of Arizona and a Masters in Talent Development from the University of Central Oklahoma, and is a Certified Facilitator of The Six Types of Working Genius. Tami is passionate about using “radically simple ideas" to help people grow.

Jim Friedemann

Jim Friedemann is the president and founder of Focal Point Consulting, LLC and has over 25 years’ experience in organizational development and leadership consulting. He is an executive coach and leadership consultant who has helped dozens of leaders achieve their career and personal goals. Jim also trains and facilitates programs in Leadership Development, Strategic Planning, Customer Service, Teambuilding, Adventure Education and other related topics.  Jim received both B.A. and M.A. in Communication Consultancy from Oklahoma State University. He is an executive coach holding a PCC credential from the International Coaching Federation, a facilitator of Strategic Planning, Crucial Conversations, Achieve Global, DDI, QBQ, Denison Organizational Culture Survey, FIRO-B, CPI 260, DiSC® and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®. He is also a certified ropes instructor.
