About this Major
Early Childhood Development Assistant Teacher students learn about the stages of development and how to foster and encourage learning in preschool-age children. Students learn about lesson planning, child behavior, and how to foster positive relationship-building in the classroom.
Graduates find successful careers at daycares, in pre-school classrooms, in private homes as nannies, in church daycares and nurseries, or after-school care in public schools.
The work environment for teacher assistant graduates is fast-paced and ever-changing. Childcare workers do their job both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather. Child care can be physically demanding, and workers often must be able to stand for long periods, sit and crawl on the floor with children, and lift children and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds.
