About this Major

Medical Office Technology is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in a medical, dental, or hospital office setting. This program specializes in administration, with an emphasis on the practice of various medical office skills. The student completes classroom work using a personal computer. Current skills for word processing and medical office procedures are practiced.

A Medical Billing and Coding Specialist will train on how a doctors' office or medical office operates. Specifically, students learn the process of medical insurance, patient billing, and coding that maintains organization of several important medical records. Medical coding is complex and requires training to master the classification system that is used by physicians, health insurance companies, and governments.
