About this Program
This program prepares you for a career as a surgical technologist, an important member of the surgical team. Surgical Technologists are responsible for sterilizing instruments and the operating room environment, preparing the operating room, and making sure the surgical team has everything it needs for a successful operation.
Half of this year-long class will prepare you for a real-world environment with hands-on learning inside a state-of-the-art classroom and simulation lab. Training is aligned with the industry and guided by an experienced instructor.
The second half will be spent at clinical sites, where you will be inside hospital operating rooms earning case time necessary to sit for your Surgical Tech certification.
You will learn how to:
- Maintain a proper sterile field during surgical procedures
- Provide technical assistance to surgeons, surgical nurses, or anesthesiologists
- Prepare patient for surgery
- Monitor and assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs
- Observe patients' vital signs and assess physical condition
- Maintain surgical files and records
- Arrange medical equipment and assist doctors during surgery
Upon completing this class, you will take the exam to become certified as a Tech in Surgery - TS-C(NCCT). This exam will take place at Francis Tuttle.
