Surgical Technologist

About this Program

Surgical technologists are allied health professionals who are responsible for various tasks before, during, and after operations. They maintain asepsis – or a clean, sterile environment – during surgery, anticipating the surgeon's needs while remaining attentive to all aspects of the surgical procedure to ensure a safe environment for the patient.

Students in this major will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment where active participation is key. Instructors act as facilitators and experts, providing guidance and resources. While students are responsible for their own learning progress, faculty ensure a robust knowledge base, create an optimal learning environment, and utilize diverse teaching methods to cater to various learning preferences.

Clinical sites will play an important role in the second half of this class. Students will be placed inside hospital operating rooms so they can earn case time that is necessary to secure the Surgical Tech certification.
