Francis Tuttle Automotive Program Awarded Scholarships for Tools

“Having a little bit of money up front where they can buy tools can get them in the door and get them started. Then they can start earning money and add to that as time goes on.”

Thanks to support from a community partner, seven students who are about to complete Francis Tuttle Technology Center’s Automotive Service Technology Program will receive scholarships to purchase tools.

Bob Moore Auto Group donated $3,500 in gift certificates to the program, and each automotive instructor will select one of their students to receive a $500 scholarship. In total, seven students will benefit from the donation.

“For students going into the industry, sometimes it’s hard to purchase tools, and that can be a little bit of a stumbling block,” explained Charles Lawson, Automotive Service Technology Instructor on the Rockwell Campus. “Having a little bit of money up front where they can buy tools can get them in the door and get them started. Then they can start earning money and add to that as time goes on.”

Sean Best, another instructor on the Rockwell Campus, said that the $500 would cover about half of the cost of a set of tools if students are frugal when making their purchases.

“We want to support the community and the technology centers, which are a direct line of employment for us,” said Greg Burns, Director of Parts Operations for Bob Moore Auto Group. “It is better for us to have students who come in with training, and then we can develop them further on the factory side. We are more than happy to support organizations like Francis Tuttle.
