My Dream

To become a police officer

“There are so many job opportunities with drones nowadays because that’s the future, and the future is here.”

Christian Borunda initially selected Francis Tuttle’s Criminal Justice program because it offered an opportunity to grow his leadership skills. While he’s done that, Christian also discovered a career path that combines his interests in helping others and drones.

After graduating in May, Christian plans to work in dispatch before attending the academy to become a police officer. At Francis Tuttle, Christian learned that drones could also be part of his future career as the technology is often utilized by police departments and other first responders. Thus, he is also focused on earning his drone certification before going into law enforcement.

“Whenever I started this program, I just saw it as a leadership opportunity,” Christian shared. “I never thought about going into law enforcement, but when I came here, the instructors were the ones who inspired me to consider this career. They’re the best instructors I’ve ever had, and they’ve helped me so much. When I entered this program, it made me think about my life and about how I want to help people in the future.”

Christian participates in ROTC at his high school, where he was first introduced to drones. He had an immediate interest in sharing the technology with others, becoming one of the people who helped fellow cadets learn to fly and master their drone skills. Outside of school, Christian is currently building a business that uses drones to complete inspections of infrastructure like windmills and power lines.

In the Criminal Justice program, Christian has been helping instructor John Loudermilk develop drone lessons.

“It’s really inspiring being able to help other students learn the future jobs they could do with drones, and it makes me smile every day,” Christian said. “I love it, and I love this program.”
