2D Animator 23-24

About this Major

In animation, imagination and creativity are the most important qualities. This major will help you develop a strong foundation in animation skills by teaching you how to combine drawing, storytelling, technical mastery, and serious software skills to make your creation come to life. Student will choose to focus their portfolio on either 2D animation or on concept art and illustration. High school students can choose to submit their portfolio for the AP 2D Art and Design Portfolio Exam for the potential to earn college credit.

In this field, tools change at an incredible pace. Both a commitment to lifelong learning and the ability to adapt and work in different styles are important for success. Animators and illustrators must be able to develop work according to design specifications and manage projects and tasks to meet deadlines. Analytical and problem-solving skills, self-motivation, a strong sense of ownership, attention to detail and a disciplined approach to quality are all essential. In addition, because animators and illustrators often work as a part of a team, strong communication skills are important.
