Biosciences and Medicine Academy
The Biosciences and Medicine Academy prepares high school students interested in a university-level degree and a career in medicine or healthcare! Explore options and participate in exceptional experiences, coupling rigorous math and science required in colleges and universities with hands on, medical related classes.
Entrance Requirements
- Candidate must be at least a sophomore before starting the Academy
- Candidate must be at or above grade level in reading and math
- Demonstrate a high interest and/or aptitude in math, science, and technology fields
- Strongly recommend having taken Biology I with a grade of B or better (Biology I is required for graduation, but it is not taught at Francis Tuttle)
- Must have taken Algebra I with a grade of B or better
- Passed eighth-grade state test in reading and mathematics
- Preferably have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
- Homeschooled students must meet the same entrance requirements
Employment Opportunities
Program completer’s education plans will be degree programs in higher education.

About this Occupation
Success in the Bioscience and Medicine fields requires strong analytical and problem solving abilities, as well as an aptitude for science, writing, and mathematics. Time management skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently are also essential. Collaboration is a key element of the scientific and medical communities, so individuals in this field need to have a high level of interpersonal skills and strong communication abilities, both written and verbal. In addition, because technology changes quickly, self-motivation and an interest in continual learning are also essential for success.

Natalie Bowman
BSMA instructor
Natalie Bowman teaches in the BioSciences and Medicine Academy at the Danforth campus. She earned both a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Education in Secondary Education/Biology at the University of Central Oklahoma. Natalie previously worked as a science teacher at both Luther Public Schools in Luther, Oklahoma, and at Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City.
Juliette Dalhed
BSMA instructor
Juliette Dalhed teaches science and math in the Biosciences and Medicine Academy at the Rockwell campus. She earned a Master of Science degree at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. Juliette previously worked as a Professor of Calculus at the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics-Chickasha Regional Center in Oklahoma City, and as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Oklahoma Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy.
Casey Walker
BSMA instructor
Casey Walker teaches in the Biosciences and Medicine Academy at the the Rockwell campus. Casey obtained his Bachelor's of Science in
Biology at the University of Central Oklahoma. Before coming to Francis
Tuttle, he was the Academy Coordinator of the Academy of Health Sciences
at Northwest Classen, OKCPS. He has a passion for building relationships
with students and preparing them to find their unique place in the healthcare
workforce.
Derek Dodd
BSMA instructor
Derek Dodd teaches math in the Biosciences and Medicine Academy at the Rockwell campus. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from the University of Phoenix. Derek previously worked as a math teacher, both at Putnam City North High School in Oklahoma City, and at Deer Creek Middle School in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Karen Evans
BSMA instructor
Karen Evans teaches chemistry in the BioSciences and Medicine Academy at the Rockwell campus. She earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education in Secondary Counseling at from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Karen previously worked as a school counselor/testing coordinator at Yukon Public Schools in Yukon, Oklahoma, and as an adjunct instructor at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma.
Kristin Graham
BSMA instructor
Kristin Graham teaches Careers in Healthcare and Biosciences in the Health Sciences Center at Edmond Santa Fe High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Central Oklahoma, in Edmond. Kristin previously worked as a science instructor at Metro Technology Center in Oklahoma City, and as a science teacher at Midwest City High School.
Dustin Moss
BSMA instructor
Dustin Moss teaches science in the Biosciences and Medicine Academy at the Rockwell campus. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, and a Master of Education from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma. Dustin previously worked as a Secondary Science Teacher at Carl Albert High School, and as an Adjunct Instructor of Clinical Anatomy at Rose State College, both in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
Rance Peters
BSMA Instructor
Rance Peters teaches in the Biosciences and Medicine Academy at the
Rockwell campus. He has earned a Bachelor of Science in both Physiology
and Nutritional Sciences from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater,
Oklahoma. He has also earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, a
Masters of Science in Sports Science and Rehabilitation, and a Doctor of
Chiropractic degree from Logan University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Peters
previously worked as a chiropractic physician and as an adjunct professor at
Oklahoma City Community College and Southern Nazarene University.
Mae Kiggins
BSMA Instructor
Mae Kiggins teaches in the Biosciences and Medicine Academy at the Danforth Campus. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Florida (UF). She previously worked as an academic advisor at UF and taught science at UF, the University of Evansville, and Deer Creek High School.
